Part-Time Youth Services and Assistant Librarian
Smyth Public Library is looking for an energetic and engaging team player to fill the position of Youth Services and Assistant Librarian, permanent part-time.
Description: Responsible for all youth aspects of a small public library. Our library features a large children’s room and unique teen area. Duties include implementing children’s programming, evening story time and the Summer Reading Program, as well as general children’s services, creating flyers and other publicity materials for children’s programing and acting as a liaison with local schools. Also, working on website and social media updates and promotion.
About 10 hours per week, primarily afternoons and evenings, and alternate Saturdays. Individual to report to the Director.
Qualifications and Skills: Educated, organized, articulate, open-minded, customer-service inspired, with library work experience. Knowledge of children’s literature and good written and verbal communications skills is valued. Capable of independent operation of the library in the absence of the director. Avid reader. Some flexibility with regard to work schedule. Genuine desire and ability / experience serving children. Comfortable and familiar with locating appropriate library resources, social media, website. Above all, individual to be personable and friendly, and committed to providing a quality library experience each day to each of our patrons.
